First Community Bank has won yet another International award. The bank was recognized as the Best Islamic Commercial Bank in East Africa by the Dubai based Banker Africa Magazine at the Banker Africa East African Awards in May. This is hot on the heels of the award for best Islamic Financial Institution in Kenya 2014, awarded to the bank by the New York based Global Finance Magazine.
First Community Bank was nominated for eight out of twenty six categories in the Banker East African Awards of which the bank won the best Islamic Commercial Bank in East Africa. The nominations show that First community Bank is a top league player in the finance sector in Kenya and by extension East Africa. First Community Bank led the pack which includes banks in the East African region including Sudan, who have a deeper heritage in Islamic banking, and have a foothold beyond their national borders.
The Banker Africa East African Awards now in their second year identifies and promotes excellence and best practice in financial services. The winners of the Banker East African Awards are recognized by their peers in the industry and therefore their performance stands out in an increasingly competitive environment. The awards reward excellence in financial services and identify its key players, of which First Community Bank is in Islamic banking. It is important to note that more than 7,000 votes were cast in these particular awards, which reflects how far beyond our current area of operation, Kenya, the bank has been felt.
In 2014 we were also recognized as the Second Best Bank to Work for by a survey conducted by audit firm Deloitte. This was due to friendly human resource policies adopted by the bank. In 2014, First Community Bank also nominated as the best SME bank in Kenya 2014 by London based Capital Finance International. These awards exemplify a remarkable show of confidence in First Community Bank.
“Winning the award for Best Islamic Commercial Bank in East Africa is redolent of our commitment to best banking practices and ethos that distinguish us in the industry. This award would be unachievable if we did not have the trust of our customers”, said Omar Sheikh, First Community Bank’s General Manager. “We are grateful for your continued support and we salute you”, he added. “This year we intend to roll out extremely innovative products to position FCB even better,” added Omar Sheikh
